Mi Gente

"Mi Gente" is a series of Queer portraits and serves as a love letter to the LGBTQ+ community. Taken in the subject's personal spaces, these images are meant to capture each person's identity through their environments and interactions within them. Each person in the series was sourced through social networking within my local LGBTQ+ community to ensure authenticity to the local community. Movements and imperfections in the images are embraced as they occur in real life. Overall, Mi Gente strives to document the reality of LGBTQ+ lives. This project was started as a way to connect with myself as a non-visibly queer woman and the people in the community around me. Accompanied by written statements about what being queer means, these images document the queer people living now, the people of today.
